Rock N Roll Book Club Episode 9 - "Trouble Boys: The True Story of The Replacements" (VIDEO)

For episode 9, your co-hosts Dave, Jen, and Shelley drink up and spit out “Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements,” written by Bob Mehr. Why use a crass metaphor for discussing a book? Because that’s the way The Replacements would want it.

If you’re not familiar with the band, you must know this: They love to drink, they don’t give a sh!t about rules or respect, and they’re one of the best bands to come out of Minneapolis…and maybe the 1980s as a whole. Talented enough to be famous but too punk to make it happen, they were indie rock before indie rock existed. If you haven’t heard them, click that playlist link below.

Here’s what to expect in the episode:

* Dave catches us up on the history of The Replacements, rivals of Kiss to win the title of “Dave’s Favorite Band.”

* Rivalries: Did R.E.M. even know they had one?

* Fun and games ensue:
-- “Dead, Jail, or Janitor?”, the Replacements version of “F, Marry, Kill.”
-- Rank the Replacements
-- One word to describe each member
-- The Lion and the Lamb
-- Who’s the Survivor?

* The gang attempts to answer difficult (and not-so-difficult) questions:
-- Alcohol: Part of the band or part of the problem?
-- Commercial success: Could The Replacements even deal?!
-- Everyone gets canned: Whose firing was the harshest?

* Shelley needs a minute…for herself

* Jen gives out the first Patty Hearst Award™

Rock & Roll Book Club Ep. 4 - The Woman In Me by Britney Spears (VIDEO)

Hello, folks, and welcome to the new video. This is the fourth episode in a new series called, "Rock 'n' Roll Book Club," where my co-hosts and I will be discussing books with either a rock 'n roll theme or ones written by rock stars (past and present). This month, we are discussing the brand new memoir by Britney Spears called 'The Woman In Me.'

SPOILER ALERT! Because this is a "book club" type video, it is assumed that everyone has already read the book, so all aspects of the story are discussed -- including the ending. If you intend to read the book, I'd suggest putting this video into your "watch later" list, and return after you've finished. If you have read it, I hope you will enjoy this discussion and leave a comment with your thoughts and opinions on the book.

Rock & Roll Book Club: Liz Phair "Horror Stories"

Welcome back, friends. This week's video is the newest episode in the "Rock & Roll Book Club" series. Every month, your three co-hosts discuss a book written by a rock star, written about a rock star, or written about the music business. This month, we are discussing Liz Phair's 2019 memoir, Horror Stories

Liz Phair is currently celebrating the 30th anniversary of her acclaimed debut album, Exile In Guyville. Her memoir is a series of short stories detailing her life and career with brutal honesty and a strong sense of humor.

About my co-hosts: Jennifer is a diehard Springsteen fan, with musical taste covering nearly every genre of music. She has been in broadcast radio for nearly 25 years, fighting the good fight so that radio is still going strong.

As the owner of Mika Ink, Shelley provides writing, content marketing, and branding services for clients large and small around the globe. If you’re interested in her “word nerd” services, she can be reached at MikaInk@gmail.com.
