TiVo Alert

This week is a little on the light side for music on late night TV, but there are some really good ones, nonetheless.

Monday, May 10: Wilco on Craig Ferguson
Tuesday, May 11: MGMT on David Letterman
Thursday, May 13: The National on David Letterman
Friday, May 14: Dr. Dog on Jimmy Kimmel

In non-musical appearances, Lost's Evangeline Lilly will be on Letterman tonight and Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday.

Wilco To Be Honorary Citizens of Madison?

The Mayor of Madison, Wisconsin and an alderman named Satya Rhodes-Conway have drafted a resolution to make the members of rock band Wilco honorary citizens of Madison. No idea how serious the drive for Wilco's citizenship actually is, but considering I lived in Madison for nearly a decade, I have to say that I love the idea. However, Wilco is from Illinois, and the Wisco-Illinois rivalry is very real. We'll have to see how far this actually goes.

It's nights like these that make a DVR mandatory. Tonight, Wilco performs on Conan and St. Vincent is on Letterman. Both appearances are "must see" television.

Wilco Adds Five New Songs To 'Sky Blue Sky'

Sometimes it doesn't pay to rush out and pick up the new album by your favorite band. Wilco has announced that it will be adding five bonus tracks to the European edition of its newest CD, Sky Blue Sky. The new tracks are three studio songs, and two live versions of songs from the album. Apparently, people who have already purchased the CD will be given a code to download the bonus tracks. Personally, this is pretty weak. I mean, I want the tracks. But now I either have to buy an overpriced import version of the CD, or just have digital versions of the tracks. C'mon, Wilco! Think ahead.

Wilco TONIGHT and Superdrag on Saturday!!

Sorry for another week of light postings, but I am taking the weekend off to go out of town, and I had a million things I needed to get done before I left. This weekend into next week is an insane time for concerts for me. I'm not sure when I will be able to sleep.

First up, of course, is tonight's Wilco show at The Orpheum here in Omaha. Wilco is always a treat live, and tonight should be no exception. I've only seen one other rock show at The Orpheum (Bright Eyes a couple of years ago), but I loved the sound, the stage, and the atmosphere.

After that, I am traveling to Chicago for Saturday's Superdrag reunion show at The Metro. I saw the band about half a dozen times in their trio form prior to their break up in '03, but never saw the original four-piece version from the 90s. Those early Superdrag albums are something else, though.

I completed my next podcast last night and will be posting it Friday morning before I take off on my trip. The entire show is dedicated to Swervedriver and Adam Franklin. Make sure to listen to this one, as it's one of my best. Also, if you're in Omaha, you'll want to bone up on Adam's music before his show next week at The Waiting Room on Tuesday (tickets). You simply MUST go to this concert. I know it's a busy week. I know it's a Tuesday. I know. I know. That is no excuse to miss this rare appearance from one of the most important British rockers of the 1990s. The show will be so freakin' great. Trust me on this one, friends.

Let's get this party started...with some mid-tempo rock and roll

Looks like Wilco will be making a stop at the Orpheum Theatre on October 11. Tickets will be on sale August 31. Some kind words that probably don't need to be said in the first place, but for some reason, these always need to be reiterated: many bands, especially Wilco, will occasionally ask for requests from the audience, but don't get your hopes up. In the case that you don't hear Tweedy ask for requests...don't yell them out. They're here. They usually play a good set. The music set is usually deliberately set out to create some sort of mood. He hasn't forgotten "California Stars" - so no matter how more and more brilliant the idea sounds as you continue to get more and more drunk at the concert...do not...under any circumstance, yell out "Play California Stars!" or "Do Heavy Metal Drummer!" Failure to abide by this rule will result not only in a potential ass-kicking from respectful fans, but worse - a wicked tongue lashing from Tweedy himself.

I Finally Crossed Joe Jackson Off My Bucket List! My Review + My (Incomplete) Collection (VIDEO)

This week, I crossed one off the ol' bucket list!  For years, seeing Joe Jackson live was one of those concerts I hoped would happen so...
